I bought my first g about 3 weeks ago and I love it's robust build. Well apart from that I cannot get it to light up. I have it set to auto when I rotate my wrist but nothing and nothing when I press the G button. Common problem? Easy fix? Or am I going to have to send it off and be left not knowing the time as my other watch is currently being repaired.

Seems to have fixed it's self.
Strange, as you were.

Update: watch it totally dead. No info on display.
I bought this watch as something to last and not have to worry about. So far my old fake watch from china is running better.

Does it have enough charge in it?

IIRC I read in the manual that using the illumination eats up lots of power .... a LOT.

according to the indicator It has been on M or moderate since I received it. It is recommended that the watch is outside for half a day per month. I would say it has been outside constantly for about a week after a recent camping trip. So it had ample charge. I have propped it up on the window sill to see if it wakes up.

Ebay? Or official supplier? There are fake G-shocks out there, that's all. Otherwise, sounds like they will have to give you another one.

I've got an analogue solar powered G (that relies on lume rather than a back light) that seems to go into 'sleep' mode quite often, but then I don't wear it all the time and when I'm not wearing it it's normally in it's box, seems to 'wake up' pretty quicky though when exposed to light again. The manual does say that half a day's *good* light will power the watch for a month but I've always taken claims like that with a pinch of salt, for example what *exactly* defines *good* light and *half* a day, if you see what I mean.
As already said, try to give it as much light exposure as possible for a day and see what happens, failing that get it exchanged.

It has woken up, so I assume it was is sleep mode. Great for when I wake up and want to know the time.
Still showing m on battery indicator. So I will try a day of light

Cheers

How did it go after a day's charge? Mine seem to come on more readily when the lighting's not so good... or is it a coincidence and mine are on their way out?

I think should really read and understand the manual. I've no idea on a raft of the features and how they work paperbag

Ordered straight from casio uk.
The Battery is low as it is now flashing instead of the date.
I will charge it up. Eventually.

Just leave it on the windowsill... or do you need to wear it for work? According to the manual, it does say to not cover it by your sleeve... it makes sense.

First day at a new college. Would be wrong to be late because I was charging my watch.

hehe You're not a true watch geek until you're late for something because you were busy messing about with a watch.

Putting it on a window sill should do the job, just make sure that it's a window that gets plenty of direct sunlight. Failing that place it face up under a bedside lamp or suchlike, job's a carrot thumbup

My AWG-101 retains its charge seemingly indefinitely - the indicator always reads HI.
The light is very bright but fecking useless as it's yellow - I can barely make out the hands and none of the other displays.

Oh, FYI, I read the manual for mine - it says it only works in low light conditions. If you did it in a lit room, it may not be dark enough...

The watch has been sat outside on my windowsill since 10pm last night, it is still showing M for the battery indicator. How long should this take?
