Which submariner? How much?
Discussion
Gents,
I've wanted a stainless Rolex sub for years and have finally got my head around paying so much for a watch.
I'm looking to buy one secondhand.
Any recommendations of a good retailer?
Also what model should I get? Sub or sea dweller? (Deep Sea is too expensive). What should I be paying?
Any advice please? Cheers

Hold off for the new Seadweller, due 2011 or 12.
Really? What info do you have?I was under the impression that the 116660 Deep Sea had replaced the 16600 SeaDweller. I don't know how you would fit a replacement SeaDweller in between the new 116610 Submariner and the 116660 Deep Sea....
Rolex still have to replace the 16570 Explorer II and the 14060M Submariner.
I didn't think they were replacing the SD as the DSSD had taken up that role!?
I might have to hold off buying a DSSD if that is the case, as I do prefer the normal SD.
There are loads and loads of SDs for sale in Singapore (where I am these days) for less than 3k GBP (date Subs can be had for less than 2.5k GBP), 2nd hand, which looks like a good deal, hence I have been having a browse. I am finding the purchase a bit difficult to justify when I have a normal Sub on my wrist.
Given the choice again, I would take the SD over the ND or D Sub or even the DSSD. However, in my particular case, the DSSD may be different enough to my ND Sub to justify it! Adding an SD to the collection would probably mean selling my ND Sub, which I am finding hard to do as it has sentimental value (I bought it the day of Lou and my 1st date, although she says to just chop it in - LOL), but we shall see!
If I had my time again, in order of preference:
1 - 16600 Sea Dweller
2 - DeepSea SD
3 - ND Submariner
4 - Date Submariner

The early 1665 Sea Dwellers are nice if you can find one, then again I'm biased. They are a bit less flashy than the later ones with the Sapphire Crystal face and the Platinum bands around the hour markers.
My brother-in-law (saturation diver) is on the lookout for one of those, I think. He said he was looking for an SD 1640, which I took to mean 1665 - A quick Google suggests they are worth a lot of money!Dominic H said:

Get in touch closer to the time and I will find out the names (I only know them by walking in there)... I may swing by tomorrow/ Sunday, if so, will write the names down.
Basically, the good 2nd hand places I know are on the edge of China Town (near the banking district over here) on the road up to Robertson Quay (where we live).
However, this guy is very good: http://www.bonfield.com.sg/ But you may pay more (he rebuilt a watch for my old boss).
Cheapest place I know is the flea market at China Square, but i think you would want to know exactly what you are looking at, so you don't go home with something dodgy. Having said that, EVERYTHING I have looked at has been genuine.
