This is a LONG way under your £2.5k, but has been in the Christopher Ward sale for a few months:

I've been looking at these:
But those are gold plated.
If you want solid Rose there's always this:
- Omega De Ville is also available but out of your price range @ £4k.

Very good, thanks for the tips.
I bought a CW for my girlfriend earlier in the year and we have been very pleased with it. However I don't think it feels like a 2.5K watch (which of course it isn't).
Will take a closer look at the Hamilton as well as check the piggy bank for funding as the De Ville looks ideal! http://www.omegawatches.com/gents/deville/hour-vis...

I bought one of these secondhand but like new for £3.5k including gold deployant buckle:

You might find one for £2.5k if you're very lucky.
2.5k!!! I wish! That's a lovely watch.

3.5k is still a great deal.

I'm looking for a rose gold case for an existing interesting movement… is it possible to have something like this scratch-built, and what sort of price am I looking at? I have *some* 18ct rose gold from another case that could be used in the build.
The existing watch has a 9ct gold plated case, but I would really like proper solid 18ct rose gold for this one. It'd not be worth anything other than the gold content, I'd expect, but it's just interesting to me.
Is there any market for this sort of thing, or does everyone just re-use old cases with duff movements? I've picked up a supposedly 'heavy solid 18ct rose gold' chrono with allegedly knackered movement (the movement is fine, just needs a service, and has a screwed balance… quite nice) but the watch sure as hell isn't 'heavy' and the 18ct rose gold is simply a thin, hollow shell covering base metal inserts. I guess this gets around legally 'plating' or 'gold filled' but to me, this is just a very thick gold plate.
Is another option to use the existing rose gold 'shell' case and filling the hollow lugs and centre with more rose gold, making the case solid - would this then be allowed to be hallmarked?
Don't know much about gold, but I have a nice old fairly rare chrono movement that I'd like to keep as an 'evening' watch when gold would be appropriate… and I much, much prefer rose gold to yellow gold.
That IWC above is an absolute bargain and I doubt anyone else will get a deal like that! The reason it doesn't fulfil my criteria is mainly age and size, I'm after something a bit different and rare…
Are 'custom' cases (though in this case, it's a popular shape / size for OEM swiss chronos in the 60s / 70s) available? Or are they so uneconomic as to have no market?

...good thoughts as always...
Have you started a 'project thread', CF?That IWC is lovely and a great deal!

Well out of my price range sadly. But I have its little brother, the Gran'sport Chronographe in steel
The movement is more or less the same - the original cal.829 has the pornographic rose-gold exposed cutaway dial, but the cal.859 gains an extra couple of jewels. Not sure whether they were 'cosmetic' unnecessary jewels or reduced friction in any meaningful manner - very few of the cal.829 were made so I doubt the extra jewels were a result of design improvement through feedback / longitudinal testing, but could have been required due to the open-heart nature of the cal.829 vs. the closed-dial (equivalent of another bridge, or the existing bridges replaced by a plate) nature of the cal.859.As to the 'project thread' - well I needed the 'photography thread' first so I could find out how to take half-decent photos. This weekend starts it off - and as you can tell from the question here, it's fallen short at the first hurdle as the so-called 'heavy solid 18ct rose gold' watch I bought weighs less than the plated steel smaller-diameter Lator chrono and is just hollow thin-gauge gold foil, by the looks of things. But need good photos to show this

Would like to know about custom cases though… I wonder how much gold you'd need - about an ounce? That's around a grand, right, for *pure* investment gold… is rose gold for jewellery cheaper, and if so, by how much? Anyone know?
