And then got one...

ETA - Apart from anecdotal references to GSG9 it was also bought by two other groups, the Zentrale Unterstützungseinheit Zoll (ZUZ) - a central tactical support unit and the Zentrale Technikgruppe Zoll (ZTZ), or Central Technical unit - both of which were Customs/Police tactical intervention units, these asked for their logo on the dial, shown here:

and helped Sinn with the design of the watch, the first few of which (well, 3 actually iirc) had the crown in the conventional right side of the case.
There is also anecdotal tales of it being issued to a US SWAT team (in LA or New York, can't remember which). I can only wonder at the face of the accountants when the bill came in....
http://members.chello.nl/~h.mennink/watches/_priva... is a fairly good summary, without so much hyperbole.
The EZM2 and indeed UX featured the GSG9 unit logo on some examples; the EZM2 GSG9 shipping with a full case of goodies.

Talking of affiliations, bogus, misconstrued or otherwise - Luminox used the SEAL reference in relation to comments made in a letter by a Chief in SEAL Team 6 at the time. This is contrary to the Govt. position (and actually used as an example in slide 20 here - http://www.dod.mil/dodgc/defense_ethics/resource_l... )
I'm sure they made a lot of money with the US Navy / SEAL 'links', but it's bulls
t. I think that's what put me of them and quite a few others that brand themselves around something they are not.
I'd try to find out if 'Nite' etc have a true, valid connection to the SAS for example, but frankly can't be arsed and just assume they don't.
Watches actually issued by the DoD in the recent past (including Suunto now - this is an old pic) include these:

For what it's worth, most people wear G-Shocks or Suunto, who, interestingly, don't make much of a big deal about it...but I've digressed again.
