I have an SMP JB quartz, large size, bought in 1997 too, because I thought at that time it would be a good daily wearer. It has proved to be so, never missed a beat. Looks like HRH may agree with me, Afghanistan and all!

Same here. Bought in 1998, mine has got the silver bezel and I don't seem to see many of them about. An AD tried to imply it was fake the last time I took it in for a battery change

I've worn it pretty much every day since purchase. It's had 2 batteries and a new clasp on the bracelet because it kept popping open. It's a bit rough round the edges and the lume has pretty much gone but in that time it's never missed a beat and keeps terrific time. In fact I can't remember the last time I adjusted it. Probably only do it when the clocks change!

Sentimental value vs Financial Value

If the above quote is true about it being from his mum, he'd probably still wear it if it was a plastic battery powered mickey mouse faced watch. I know I would! Fair play to the lad. It's still a nice watch in its own right
