How to tell tat from top-notch?
Discussion
While Christmas shopping I've been looking at things.
But if I buy one of course I'd like it to be respectworthy - I'd be horrified if I realised I'd accidentally bought a Lexus without realising it's Toyota underneath (iffy analogy).
Police and Diesel and Emporio Armani are obviously style-over-substance. But brands like Pulsar, Skagen, Citizen or Michael Kors... They're priced well but are they all mouth and no trousers?
Please opine.

Pulsar is, IIRC, a Seiko sub-brand, like Lorus. Good quality quartz at a reasonable price.
A colleague has a Skagen watch, and it's horologically nothing to write home about, but it is incredibly thin and is very nicely designed.
Citizen, like Seiko, is good stuff. Some of their chunkier divers have a certain appeal.
Kors? Fashion tat.

What's the consensus on Timex these days? Always known as ticka ticka trash years ago.
The reason I ask is that I've got my eye on this Nautica which is one of their sub brands.
I always think of Timex as being in the same vein as Lorus - good quality, honest quartz watches at a fair price. The reason I ask is that I've got my eye on this Nautica which is one of their sub brands.
Although I've just been to their website and had a look - they seem to have a small range of automatic watches.
Here's a link to a review of one.
ETA Damn you, pacman1! I now seem to need one of these!
