used Breitling colt or something else?
Discussion
After a bit of advise on a watch purchase, got a small christmas bonus from work which I wasn't expecting and as I've never treated myself to a decent watch I thought this might be a bit of a treat.
Bit board over christmas so had a look in the local jewelers and they recommended the Breitling Colt as a good buy, but I'm not really sure the best part of £2k is such a wise purchase as there's other things I need, however a bit of looking around online and I've found a very similar used Breitling Colt for £800 which is a bit more sensible / justifiable.
Is there any reason to avoid the Colt or is there anything else in this price bracket which people would recommend ?

I'd imagine at that price range you've seen the older version which is 38mm and the one in shops is slightly bigger. 41 I think.
I got a blue automatic. The smaller one. Bit of an impulse buy and paid around what you've seen it for. I partcuarly like the fact its a bit smaller than the "traditional" breitlings as I work in an office wearing a suit 4 days a week.
Hanging my head in shame I know little else about the watch other than I liked it and bought it.

For £2k you can get a quite decent watch, online or not.
I would appreciate that you don't want to blow the lot, but I wouldn't buy a Colt. It is small, and depreciation heavy. Buying online is not really a risk, as long as you know exactly what to look for and where to go. Just my opinion.
If i was to spend £2k on a used Breitling, i'd get any of these classics:
Navitimer 42mm - easily found on eBay, but be careful! (from £2k to £2600) not waterproof though.
SuperOcean Steelfish 44mm - as above, but also avail. from
'bricks & mortar' jewellers (£1100-£1600)
Chrono Avenger M1 44mm (£1500 - £1900)

I have a quartz chrono colt with fighter bracelet. Its stood up to everyday wear brilliantly. Its had 2 batteries in 8 years.
Its smaller than other Breitlings which I like as I'm skinny so it doesn't look a medallion on my wrist. More accurate and less faff than an auto watch, but less character I suppose.
Not much else to say. The quartz colt is "the cheapest" Breitling if that bothers you. I do wish I'm looked around more before buying it as theres lots of great wtaches out there away from the high street, but hey I liked it!

An alternative view could be to say now is the time to buy them. There is a growing number of people I hear saying current watches are too big, after all we don't all want something approaching 2" on our wrist, and 38mm is about right. Buy them now and they'll only increase in value once the current fashion has passed.

Yep, I'm confident enough with my masculinity and sexuality that I'll even wear pink
Amusingly, it can take more s
t than most men's watches (ie apart from G-shocks).

I mean... I have the entry level Breitling!
