Fortunately I have £6k to spend on a watch this year, it will be second hand.

My current shortlist is as follows, interested to hear peoples thoughts and any other suggestions would be appreciated

AP Royal OAK Jumbo - very classy and great brand

JLC Master Compressor Chrono 2 - beautiful design

IWC Big Pilot - Love the design but will it get boring? Any owners out there? Feels a little light also.

The obvious other choice is an IWC Portugese 7 day, however by brother has this and we work together so i don't really want the same. I have thougt about Panerais but a few too many of my friends have them also now.

I have Cartier dress watch and Breitling Nav so looking to go for one of the more respeted watch makers next.

Thanks

joe

Tony - To be honest I didnt think PP were in that price bracket, also i am 29 and have always seen the PP's as a watch for the more discerning gent 40 + years, that said I quite like the Nautillus but know its too exensive.

Cheers

I've only ever browsed rather than look specifically, but I seem to recall you can get some around that price (and obviously many more far higher).

I'm a similar age (30) and think, so long as you went for the right model, it wouldn't appear an old man's watch at all.

edit; looking again now, that would be the bottom end, certainly, but just about doable I think! Far more knowledgeable folk than I will be along soon to help I'm sure, but thought I'd just plant that seed for you smile

If you want a watch to keep, AP Royal Oak.
Classicly understated, it will age well with you.
As a toy either of the other two .

A JLC, but not the one you posted for me. smile

I'd have a JLC over any AP any day of the week.

They're 3 very different watches... out of those I'd pick the JLC, never been a fan as to the RO's looks and I'd have a different IWC to that pictured, having said that with that budget (I wish!) I'm not too sure if I'd pick any of them.
All 3 are decent watches from the build/brand point of view, if you haven't already try them on and see which way your heart is pulling!

I think I would choose the AP of those.

As an aside I don't think that is a Jumbo you have pictured, rather that is one of the "standard" Royal Oaks, the Jumbo has no second hand. Also i don't think you'd get the Jumbo for 5k though you would (just) get a standard RO. I'd go for the one pictured.

The JLC Master Compressor would be my choice of the 3 were it not for those chrono pushers & the crown, so from the 3 it would be the AP.

However, my money could well be going on a birth year Sub / SD or (if I didn't have them already) either of these, with enough left over for another nice watch or two.

I love that GO. How much do they go for (brand new and second hand if you know - although they don't seem to come up second hand very often)?
Thanks

Hi Tertius, budget is 6k and think your right about it not being Jumbo, however i have been scouting around and don't even think I can get one for 6k...there are a couple abroad but with shipping etc they are circa £6.5k I cant increase budget.

Out of interest, what other watches from AP/JLC/IWC would you have for the £6k budget?

as mentioned IWC Port 7 day power reserve was high on list but brother has it so don't want the same

Cheers chaps

I also quite like some of the Hublot big bangs but again couldn't prfioritize the brand over the above,,,thoughts?

EdHasler bought a Dornbleuth at the end of last year and I must say - it is superb, very impressed with it. Simple and elegant. You're looking at half of your budget, too - which might leave room for something else. So, 2 watches? smile
