I've been idly browsing the TZ For Sale forum and have stumbled across this:

A Seiko 6138-3002. I have to say I love the look of it, but I'm a little nervous about a watch that's 30 something years old.

What are they like today? Still reliable? Is there anything that looks like them that's made today? Can straps be replaced simply?

A strap takes a few minutes to change.

Don't worry about age. Worse case scenario is a service.

I think it's very nice, different from what you normally see today. I'm just a little nervous buying such an old watch without being able to see it.

I had one of those. Very nice, but too chunky for me. They are quite big pieces. The bracelet is pretty cheap and light, but then I don't like bracelets at the best of times. I took mine off and gave it away.

Unusually for Seiko it is hand-windable.

Just got one of those this week. Great time keeping - circa + 10 secs / day. The chrono works fine & re-sets right on the markers.

I've got / had loads of watches from the 60's & 70's & generally they're fine. The only thing is to be careful with water.

Water isn't a concern, it's more repair / strap size (as explained above this isn't an issue) and the fact you have to buy it 'blind'.

Did you get yours from TZ? There have been a few on there of late.

Just 'won' one on ebay for £110 smile Judging by what they go for on TZ that could be a bit cheap... Fingers crossed it's all OK
