Don't rush to get 50 posts so you can sell it - you will be found out !

If you want to sell it on TZ-UK, don't speed post (Eddie will spot you and delete your account as soon as you hit the required 50 posts to sell on the SC). I would also sell a couple of cheapos over the next 3 weeks to establish yourself before you drop a £3k watch on the SC. Only a fresh-faced noob would deal with you otherwise. Look at it from the reader's viewpoint. A newbie comes on and sells a £3k watch. Would you trust them even if they pointed at their ebay account without proof it's your account?

It's a strange one really. No other selling forum seems so hung up. Why do i need to 'prove' who i am before i can sell a £2.5k watch.

Seems to me you're considered dodgy until you can prove otherwise.

Dunno. What are other forums like for newbies coming on and ripping members off? (That sounds painful!)

I think there have been just two incidents in the last 3 years on both watch forums thanks to this policy. You don't get any Nigerian scammers, either. People work hard to protect their ratings and thus if someone shows an interest in a watch, there's a tendency to be more casual about payment eg the seller might send a watch before payment's made or cleared simply down to a high level of trust between members.

Or to put it briefly, I have bought and sold over 50 watches, straps and other bits and pieces on TWF and TZ-UK and to this day refuse to have an ebay account.

Other forums may not be so "hung up" but there isn't another forum that I'd be willing to trade a £3k watch on. It's not about 'proving' that you're not dodgy, you couldn't do that anyway. It's about contributing to the community on that site before you get to take advantage of what is a really great audience of buyers and sellers.

I take it you can rack up 50 genuine posts in double-quick time and be allowed to buy, or will that get you in trouble too?

No need. If you can see something, you can contact the seller. I think there may be a minimum level of posts you need to PM though to discourage spammers.

It did me a favour really... I joined because there was a little something I was interested in but by the time I'd reached the 50 posts milestone it had sold. frown
I couldn't really justify/afford it at the time anyway. hehe

A good point I forgot to mention; it's not a fee-less auction site - it's a site for watch enthusiasts. If one is enthusiastic about watches then the 50 posts will appear pretty quickly even if replies are in-depth; if someone thinks watch enthusiasts are a bunch of losers* then ebay is the only real option.

(*-ok, I admit it, we are. biggrin )

You don't need to post 50+ to buy just to sell.

I'm no TZ-UK fanboy by any means, but it's not a selling forum. The Sales room was put there for forum members to sell their stuff to each other on, not for randomers who aren't interested in the "community" to flog their wares. As for proving yourself, if I'm going to wire a couple of grand to a dude I've never met, damn sure I'm going to consider him a fraudster to begin with.

How about making this thread a sticky as every other week somebody starts a thread asking how they join TZ-UK?

TZ-Uk in the search reveals nothing!

TZ-UK is a lightly moderated forum with a sales corner for members who been on for a while and a 50+ post count to sell anything they like.

If you wish to buy something you can email the seller without joining or if you do join you can still buy with under 50 posts.

Joining is at the discretion of Eddie who owns and operates the site and the it is best to contact him during working hours with a bit of info about yourself.

They don't just sell watch related items either, you can sell a myriad of items, there were BB Guns, and bodywarmers on last time I looked.
That's the only reason I ever venture onto TZ.

It's hilarious the folk selling stuff to fund their next grail. Cars, Jackets, Phones, Children.

There are some serious OT bargains on there.

However, I really don't understand why WUS doesn't get more love.

http://forums.watchuseek.com/f29/

Granted most of them are septics, but give them a nudge and they'll begrudgingly ship *sharp intake of breath* outside the US.

Bargain central, and pretty fast moving too. You need to check it daily, and bid them in the nuts. They'll generally cave in.

Stick it in the classifieds here in the meantime. You might surprise yourself.

There's always Chrono24 as well. I've spent many an hour drooling over watches on there.

Might have the same issue as on TZ-UK though, not being a recognised seller.

I had a very successful sale on the classifieds here with a watch before.

As for TZ, the reason Eddie is careful about the people who join and speed post etc is so that he can maintain the high standards of the forum. I've not been on there long but have had 8 or so very safe and quick trasnsactions. There's a high level of trust. Immediate payment, no fees, friendly guys who go out of their way for you in some cases. It's a brilliant environment and you can even buy things in the safe knowledge that if you don't like what you've bought you can simply relist it at what you paid for it and it'll very likely sell.

I agree. Eddie's approach can seem like a PITA if you need to sell a watch in a hurry I guess, but I like the fact that he's built in so much trust for buyers and sellers. It'd go to hell in a hurry if he relaxed the rules IMHO.
