Your watch history....
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I've had this question I've been meaning to ask for sometime now.
Where do you get the history on your watches from? Since joining this forum I've seen some top quality watches followed by some equally amazing write ups detailing original intended use, year made etc etc.
I've tried googling some watches I've taken an interest in but tend to come up against ebay pages or other minimal information sites.

I suppose the watch model. There have been a few pieces on here and on TZ that the owners have big write ups and I'm always impressed at the knowledge displayed.
One in particular on here was the guy with the French Army/Navy Omega. The banana one. How on earth do they find the information?

I thought this might be a 'Your watch history' ie what have you owned over years?
I recall a timex manual wind and then an Ingersoll digital as my first watches back when my age was in single digits...
That would make a great thread. Am off to google my old Ingersoll !
Good idea. I had an old Fila watch that I loved. I gave it to my ex girlfriend's little brother. I wonder if it would be crass to phone and ask for it back. lol. I recall a timex manual wind and then an Ingersoll digital as my first watches back when my age was in single digits...

Sometimes it's the history that draws you to the watch rather than the other way around, there're plenty of watches that are well known historical interest watches (whether that be general model or specific watch), others are military issue watches which pin them down to a certain 'epoch', vintage divers all have a story to tell, usually involving Cousteau, Comex or advances in watch technology at that time, certain watches are 'firsts' or from that period (first auto chrono, first HE valve, first 1000m - I bet you've never heard of a Sandoz Typhoon but it was one of the first 1000m watches for example).
Where does the info come from? There're some pretty good sites, I'd certainly rec'd a few below for general knowledge/reading;
http://scubawatch.org/thumbnail.html (Assorted collection, predom. vintage, divers and mil issues; very infornmative and has most of the big ones)
http://ninanet.net/watches/launchpad.html (huge array of historic watches)
http://www.lesmala.net/ (Lemania, Speedmaster and Navitimer info)
And Rich Askhams site is always worth a dip in as he's had a few interesting ones as well: http://thewatchspotblog.com/
