I've had an amazing weekend. My Father found my Grandad's watch, presented in 1936 by Lever Bros. I used to love sitting on his knee, with the watch up against my ear, ticking. It beat the snooker on the b/w TV (early 80's).

I had not seen it since then. It seems to have shrunk from memory. A gold 30's Vertex wristwatch. Not a brand I can find much about.

Sorry about the ramble. I was hoping I could find some recommendations for watch servicing in the North West.

There's Richard Askham in Barnsley that does a top job. His site is at http://thewatchspotblog.com/

Vertex were one of the 12 watchmakers who used to make military watches for the MoD in the forties/fifties/sixties.

Others being Buren, Cyma, Eterna, JLC, Lemania, Omega, Record, Timor etc.

Yup, I like the way he's equally as enthusiastic about an Accurist or a Heuer Bund and details his repairs online, some really interesting watches when you have a dig about thumbup
