40th Birthday this year and fancy a treat - for some reason I have taken to this watch and tried on over xmas and rather liked it - think its a bit different and nice chunky design..

are they any good for the money ? cheapest i've seen it was £550.00

Its a fashion watch - no real merit to the movement IMHO.

But if you like it why not? You could maybe think second hand for something which would hold its value.

I have one, and love it (but then again, I'm far more into the design of watches rather than movements).

Personally I'd say that you should haggle and try to get a leather strap with it - and that's it really! Go for it!

He means get it on the metal strap but ask them to throw in a free leather spare as part of the deal.

The leather strap is over £100 all in, way over in fact, so getting one thrown in might be a tad difficult. orth a try though as it is a nice strap.

I know this as I purchased an extra one for mine and Oakley messed up on the price, they admitted to me the real price once they had my watch (I had to send the watch to them in order to prove I owned one, only then would they sell me the strap unfitted... strange way of doing things).
As it was their mistake they ended up letting me have the whole strap for the original quote of £60 including delivery... which at the time was the price of just one of the titanium case links. Each part of the strap has a seperate part number and price, so when you order a strap you end up ordering I think 5 parts (2x case links, 2 x leather strap halfs, 1 x buckle). not sure if the straps are still sold in this manner or not.

Mind you, I don't actually own a 'Minute Machine" I own a proper 'Time Tank' [ puts nose in the air and looks down it ] wink . Great watch but it does sit very big on the wrist, it is very light, but still nicely bulky. Incredibly well made and fantastic finish too.

And it's not a 'fashion watch' as it was earlier dismissed... that's just plain snobbery because it's not a big 'name'. It's a fantastically made bit of kit with a very nicely engineered construction and a stunning attention to detail. Some of the 'names' that seem so revered could actually learn things from Oakley regarding construction quality.

Jesus, I just did an image search on these.

The above poster is very accurate, they most certainly not fashion watches.
