Yes, I thought exactly the same. Nice clear HD picture, but no clarity at all on JC's watch.
Probably didn't really race the sun and the time on the watch would have given the game away. You'd think the producers would've ensured he didn't wear one, but perhaps they only realised the error in editing.

If you could see the time it would have poo pooed the filmed sketch on racing the sun.
They blurred the clock on the Jags dash too.
This. Always used to be amusing when the time on the celebrity laps in the liana used to skip about. If you could see the time it would have poo pooed the filmed sketch on racing the sun.

They do the races twice, once for real and then actually film the second run. It can take hours of setup to get the shot they want in the right weather / light etc. You can shoot hours of footage and when edited down they might only use seconds of it in the show.If you could see the time it would have poo pooed the filmed sketch on racing the sun.

Excuse copy/paste:
Top Gear regularly reaffirms that the races do take place for real, and that many of the shots used in the film are then recorded over a few days by retracing the journey. In the case of the Bugatti Veyron race, the Stig drove the car back to Italy, although these shots are filmed so that it is not apparent that Clarkson is not driving. This 32-minute feature took 33 16-hour days to edit.
