Hi All,

A little help if you wouldn't mind. I bid on this a while back:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

Now the seller has sent me the following email:

Hi there,

You recently made a bid on my Longines hydroconquest watch for £550 but it later was sold by other bidder for £570, the bidder dropped out a didnt process the payment so i still have the watch, i was wondering if you were still interested? i am willing to drop the price to £400? i am desperately trying to pay off my student loan, and this watch is no good to me!

Please let me know if you are still interested?

Best wishes

Now I'm quite tempted for £400 as I do want to add a Hydroconquest to the collection but something doesn't feel quite right... Are there many fake Lognines watches around? Do the serial numbers on the eBay advert mean anything to anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Not worth the risk with ebay m8 better off buying one of the trusted watch forums!

Imo £570 sounds like a pi$$ take price.

Google "fake longines". Can you google her name? Does it sound like she's a uni graduate from anything you find? Are those female hands?

Feedback looks good but all cheap stuff. If hijacked, scammer could have stolen pictures; they look kinda feminine but not very feminine as short, no paint etc. And she's never sold anything on ebay.

Although she doesn't have much feedback it does go back over 12 months so it's not an account set up in the last few days. If you pay via PayPal you should have some protection.

Maybe ask her for a photo of the watch, box & yesterdays paper all in shot?

You bid £550. You can get a new one from the Usual Suspects for a shade over £600. Me, I'd stump up the extra £50 and buy one from a reputable source. Look here:

Forum price is around £350-£400!

Have you seen the 47mm chrono version on tz-uk at £650?

That's assuming 1) There are any up for sale, and 2) The OP is comfortable buying a second hand watch.

That 47mm thing is a bit of a minger IMHO, but it takes all sorts. biggrin

To be fair I've only ever once not found what I was looking for by placing a WTB ad on TZ.

That's fair enough. I must admit I've never posted a WTB on TZ, but I have responded to a few, and been arsed around fairly comprehensively on all the ocassions.

Riff,

I'll ask the Longines chrono seller if the watch is still available,

Thanks for the thoughts guys - I slightly regretted the bid of £550 so think I'll let this one slide...

I do quite fancy one and have no problem with buying second hand but have to agree that TZ or on here are probably better bets.

Cheers smile

I Managed to get a quartz (sorry!) hydroconquest chrono from an AD brand new for 700. I didn't even ask for a discount so I'm sure if you can drive a hard bargain you could get closer to your original bid. At least then you have the peace of mind that there is nothing dodgy about it!
