So how many of you chaps are interested in Military watches?

Do any of you chaps frequent the well known www.broadarrow.net forum?

Yes - and seen you a few times across there Bry, did you see that Heuer 'Bund' Cal 12 prototype that broke surface yesterday? cool just doesn't do it justice.

Here are a few:

(The last two are cheating a bit; the Sinn was designed in collaboration with German police intervention units and used by them but wasn't 'issued' in the true sense whilst the Seiko was used by the SAAF from 1984 onwards although this is a civilian one which I used during my military service!)

I think I'd like a Lemania 2220 asymmetric single pusher this year if possible, I've also got an unusual Roamer Anfibio which I'm looking into at the moment that could be feck all but may be quite interesting.

Hi Andy,

Yes I think I've also seen you there a few times.

MWR is ACTUALLY what got me into beadblasting I actually joined the original site many years probably before joining tz-uk.com ago but Bill had to delete everyones account for some reason.

Ha - yup, a lot of the old timers all seemed to join in mid 2007!

I don't post that often but every now and again there is some really good information from the guys there, people like Billy (Schorr), Colin 'nalu' and Konrad Kirim et al have an encyclopaedic knowledge and vast experience that beggers belief sometimes. The atmosphere is quite curmudgeonly but I can see why after lurking for a while!

The NSN6645 forum over on ATG has a good set of folks too, again, very knowledgable, much like the BMW slot over on TZ.

Nice job on Stuarts Seiko by the way.

Yep everyone had to enroll again back in 2007.

Nalu always has a good watch post or sale.

Thanks Andy.

Irretrievably? That'd be a shame, in normal watch terms it's a 7A28, the first analogue quartz chronograph movement, it features a 1/10th sec counter, no date and a split time function - so fairly interesting and with a reputation as being one of the best Seiko movements (quartz), perhaps due to the high jewel count. From a military perspective it was (in this form) used by the South African Airforce as I've said but it (movement/dial layout) was also used as the RAF issued watch in the early eighties, particularly for helicopter pilots for some reason. It was revised slightly in the generation 2 form - both now starting to command higher prices.
The next movement incarnation was the 7A38 which added the day/date feature at 3 o'clock.

Nice, robust little watches.

Here's the Generation 1 RAF issue:

(Al'/ATG)

And what the back should look like (6645-99-768-3056 is the Nato stock number, small broadarrow, 10762 is the serial number and /90 is the year)

(Neil/Chronomaster)

Note the fixed lug bars.

Both.

The lume is completely shot, think it may have got water in there at some point, it doesn't run, and one of the pushers is a bit duff.

It looks condition wise very similar to the one posted above.

Sounds an easy fix providing the dial isn't beggared.

I think they've all gone that way (as far as lume goes), when a 'restore' question was asked on TZ-UK on this one, Bry (from here and there) came out as the top suggestion for a relume/cleanup:

You had that old, nice 300 as well Andy, I always associate those with the issue ones - more so than I associate the Sub with issue subs I think, I don't know why.

The CWC takes design elements from both of those though - not to homage but rather because it's just a good design; hands, dial, bezel and crown guards are all very utilitarian and sober but not austere. I like the 'T' too. Nice watch - do you have a side on shot at all?

The PD is classic; simple, informative, legible dial and a great movement. It has to be one of the last great auto military chrono designs. Super.
