...but that's probably because I'm into divers at the moment.

If you prefer the look of the Casio, but want an automatic, consider the Orient Mako. £62.50 on ebay.

^^ good suggestion re the Orient. I prefer the looks of the Casio myself if that's the only thing to judge a watch by, I actually think it's quite a looker for the price, though only you can decide if you'd rather have an auto or quartz.

Having never owned an automatic watch before will this need to be serviced or is that only relevant for more expensive watches? I suppose that after a 5 years+ the quartz one may need a new battery.

I'd wear it a few times a week, but probably not every day.

I'd rather both watches on a leather strap, but that can be done fairly easily.

Seiko. If you don't like the nylon, put it on leather, as someone did on the £50 thread and as I did with my SNKH65.

I'd go for the Casio. Not sure what is so great about that Seiko mentioned, aesthetically, it doesn't really do anything for me, and the fact that it's an auto doesn't make it particularly special.

Also, if you're not going to be wearing it every day, you'll probably get fed up of having to set it to the correct time and date when you do want to wear it. Unless you get a watch winder, but then even one of those will probably cost more than the watch anyway.

You'll be getting a decent watch with which ever you choose, I just prefer the look of the Casio.

Re servicing, no point on a watch that cheap. Plus my 1980s Seiko 5 that my dad bought for me when I was a schoolboy still keeps time reasonably well (+25s) for a £35 watch and it has never been serviced. I suppose, given that it has not increased in time, I should adjust it to make it run 25 seconds slower than it does currently.

As for wearing it irregularly, are we talking once every three days or every other day? I think it can handle not been worn for a day but will stop after two days.

Either to suit really; I don't actually mind that Casio, but why have the interdivisional second marks when it's a (presumably) second-step quartz...?

Also, what's the second crown for with an external bezel...?

I have both and the Seiko gets all the wrist time.

I got the casio for a work beater....its OK and a nice enough watch but I prefer the '5' on a nato strap.

Well while digging around the loft I pulled out a watch I bought from eBay a few years ago. I was convinced that it didn't work.

I wound it up and wore it for a few days to see if I really did want a watch to wear regularly.

One week in and it's working well and I really like it, so much that I'll probably not bother getting a new one.

It's an old Russian Raketa Perpetual Calendar with a blue face on a cheapo black eBay special strap. Appears to be from 1980, has the date and a silly calendar feature that I can't work out (it also expired in 2000).

I can't attach a pic as my ipad is not a proper computer So I can't copy the pics location.
