Having experimented with getting a service from an independent 'Premier' watch specialist - which was not successful, to say the least - I intend to do it properly next time.

So, what is the best way. I seem to remember that I should use an Omega dealer who will send it off to Omega themselves for servicing. Is this right?

Any recommendations? What's the usual sort of cost on a service - mechanical, automatic, time and date?

My Planet Ocean is in for service currently afer 6 years...

I tried a highly-recommended local independant specialist initially who very candidly suggested that the only way you should get a Co-Axial movement serviced is via Omega directly. He also suggested that I contact them myself rather than through a dealer who will add a margin purely for posting the damned thing to the same place!

Go to Swatch Group website and look up phone numbers for UK servicing... I'm pretty sure that mine has gone somewhere near Southampton...

I rang them, posted it with covering letter and received a call quoting the price.... £415!!!- however it is more a refurb than a service and also includes the cost of a new bezel (at my request). I have been told that it would take 10-12 weeks and that was about 6 weeks ago. I have also been told that it will come back 'like-new'... So I will reserve judgement until back.

However, if you think about it as the intricate instrument that I rely on and wear day-in, day-out then £400+ is not so bad for 5.5 years; especially as the retail has gone up by about that in the same time.

Mine came back from STS Swiss Time Services last week (SMP) at a cost of £259.00 for a service and refurb. It carries a two year guarantee when it comes back. It took around six weeks in all but it basically looks like a new watch which is what some members here said to me when I was asking the same question. Rather than fall foul of the rules around advertising I will not point you to the classifieds where the work can be seen. They are in Surrey iirc.
