Hello all

I've decided that it would be nice to treat myself to a watch from my year of birth to have for special occasions.

I'm fairly new to this 'nice watch appreciation' game so I'm sure that some of you fine folk will be able to provide me with some food for thought.

I would like to be able to wear this piece on occasion rather than it just being sat in a case looking nice and/or gaining in value.

To give you some idea of the things that I might like, I currently have:

Tag Heuer WV2113

Christopher Ward C5

I've also got this Citizen eco drive that I won as a prize which I quite like wearing, although I wouldn't want anything 'busier':

My initial thoughts involved some sort of classic, simple Rolex, like this one on the 'bay:

What do you think? Let's say the budget is £2.5k for now.

Your budget will get you a very nice Autavia from 1973 (although I think this one is a 74)

with a good few £ left over.

Omega 2.4MHz marine chronometer, or one of the starburst dials. There was one on sale at tz-uk for 2.5k, that I was very very tempted by.

Good suggestions made already, a vintage Heuer would be a very nice choice.

The more obvious choices would be a Speedmaster Moon Watch; should be able to get one for the budget you mention or even a Rolex Matte Maxi 5513 Sub if you can find up to £500 more.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

What are the best sort of places to look for older watches? I've looked on eBay of course, but if anyone's got any suggestions for stockists (or classified ads for private sellers) then I'd be very grateful.
