Why? You declined so it has probably gone to the next person on the list...

Possibly. It wouldn't be the first time a dealer has sold a watch to someone NOT on a list though wink

I don't think the steel Daytonas are as sort after as they used to be.

That explains why you never see a s/s one in a window then.

They are £7k now, they were under £4k when I went on the list (only about 4 years ago I think). They don't seem such a bargain now - and used ones on watch forums are often around/below RRP.

TBH, I don't think they were that much of a bargain even at £4k. The Daytona was a grail watch of mine for a long time, and it took me a long time to work out in my mind whether I was willing to pay £7k for one. I did earlier this year, and I'm not sure it's a £7k watch. It's very petite by modern standards, and surprisingly, it's very hard to read the sub-dials because there is a lot of polished 'stuff' going on with the dial. The bracelet and clasp are much nicer than they were on the old ones though.

I'm pretty sure that if I sold it - even with the stickers still on - I wouldn't get back what I paid for it, but I think that's been the case for a few years now. The days of getting one at RRP and flipping it straight away at a profit are long gone.

That being said, there is still a waiting list, and you never see a s/s one in an AD's window, so there are still people around who are prepared to pay silly money for them. You never know - the current model might just hold its price a bit better if they (Rolex) release an update to the s/s version next year. (The naff ceramic bezel that will appear on the t/t / gold ones later this year).

Agree with all that. Was a grail watch of mine as well. Treated myself to brand new white face and black face watches earlier in year. I still like them... but I realise they are not the bombproof investments they were and as mentioned they are pretty small looking things now compared with current watch 'trends' 2011 clasp is definately much better and more secure and sturdy feeling thing as well as you say.

I do realise they were only so sought after by alot of people as you could buy new for £4k and sell it on at £6k+!

Those days are gone.

You can get them quite easily now, a friend of mine even saw one in a shop window. The watch badly needs an update, both dials look very bland and it's far too shiny. Nice movement though.
