New Aqualand and Apeks Divers
Discussion
Had a big clear out of junk that was sold on ebay and with the proceeds bought myself a couple of presents.
Had been after the Citizen Aqualand for a while now. Love the unusual shape case and its real diving heritage (re-issue of an 80s watch). Considered various Seikos but wanted quartz as I switch between watches quite often so didnt want the hassle of continually changing the time. Plus the stop watch and alarm function on the aqualand will be useful. I doubt somehow that I'll ever use the depth gauge or depth alarm but it's nice to have them just incase! It was bought from Creation for under half rrp and their service was excellent.

The Apeks was a bit of an impulse purchase I stumbled upon while trying to locate a decently priced Aqualand. It is quartz and uses a seiko movement. The case reminds of a Seiko Tuna with the cut away parts. It only cost £73 and is great for the money.
Bigger than the aqualand but not as deep. Pretty weighty too and comes on a 22mm strap (aqualand is 24mm). Its is rated to 500m
Apeks make serious diving equipment and these watches are well respected in the diving world and only sold in dive shops. The Aqualand is also very popular with divers and unlike some dive watches is usually a tool that actually gets used by divers. Pretty pleased with both so far.

I bought the Aqualand from Creation about 2 weeks ago. It probably was the last as while waiting for it to be delivered I went to the site to look at it again and it was no longer listed.
It's still advertised elsewhere so Creation may still be able to get you one if you email them. City watches in the UK had them for almost the same price if I remember but didnt supply it in the Citizen box, Creation did so I bought from them. Although I don't think its the original box as the manual doesnt fit in it.
Came in three days with no problems in customs, was declared as low value so sailed through.

The apeks watches are also sold under the brand names Aqualand, Momentum and Deep Blue. I believe Aqualand are no longer in existence though. They all seem to take the same watch and just change the dial and hands. All are Seiko movements and are only sold in Dive shops.
The Aqualand version of my 500m watch has an orange minute hand which looks quite cool.
I chose the Apeks as it was easier to get hold of (less Aqualands on sale since company wound up but they are still for sale) and the fact that Apeks is a serious diving brand, selling regulators and all sorts of other dive equipment. Momentum and Aqualand are just dive watch brands with no real diving heritage.

Very similar to my beater - must use similar parts.Had been after the Citizen Aqualand for a while now. Love the unusual shape case and its real diving heritage (re-issue of an 80s watch). ETA Be careful with the aqualand straps - they're generally poor and don't last long. I've been through a few and nearly lost the watch on several occasions.
Sorry Gallardo, mis redead your post, Hope you like your aqualand as much as I do. Think it'll give years of good service.
Rhino - The aqualand strap is certainly stiff, which bit gives way? The spring bars or the buckle? Were you actually using it as intended when it went? ie diving?

Rhino, your beater is the same case as mine but must be the 1000m version with the helium release valve at 9 o clock. Lots of brands use the same case and yours was pictured on some watch forums I visit as a variation of the apeks/aqualung watches. All the same movement and case just different faces and hands apparently.
I had read the 1000m versions can leak at the helium release valve if you don't check its tight regularly, apparently can work loose.
