Six years ago when I got married, my in laws bought me a Seiko as a gift -a bit of a tradition where I come from that the son-in-law to be gets gifted a watch and a ring- Given that I got married on the indian sub continent I wasn't holding out for anything particularly exciting, and I asked them for something that I could wear everyday that had a chrono function. I ended up with this (please excuse the crappy iphone pic):

The back is as so:

Doing some googling of the numbers stamped on the back leads me to believe its a V657-7090. Does that sound right? Not that it matters much but am I right to assume that it is genuine? It came in a grey box with no papers or manual etc - it could be that my bro in law simply chucked them.

To be honest I didnt wear it much, it just lived in the watch box- but last month as I was traveling to Morocco and didnt want to risk wearing my Longines out and about in the Souks etc I took this with me and it has really grown on me, its almost a polar opposite of the Hydroconquest chrono in that it's light, doesn't have a massive face and is very low profile. The only thing I would want to change is the fact that it has no lume and so useless at night. Which leads me to my second question- could it be modified to have hands that had a bit of lume on them? and if so who would be able to perform such a modification?

Hardly an expert, but yes you've id'd it right. Just so you know, the 6 digit number on the back indicates it was made in January 1990 or 2000 (or possibly 2010 but that doesn't fit when you received it), and is number 1245 of that particular run.

If you want the manual, it's here http://www.seikowatches.com/support/ib/pdf/SEIKO_V...

As for fitting lume hands, you could probably have a go yourself with the right tools and the right replacement hands, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly to recommend someone.
