It's so difficult when you've finally decided on the watch you want, sorted a supplier (the trusted and charming Mr Hackett once again) and then have to wait and wait . . . . In this case because some man in Germany is going blind as he assembles the in house movement and checks it's immaculate etc etc . . . Then it has to be sent over etc etc etc etc . . . .

Dominic is great to deal with and you can't hurry quality, but as there wasn't what I wanted in the UK it's being made to order, hence the wait. . . .

I want my watch ! frownfrown

Yep ...... Senator Chronograph XL. Could of had black faced one straight away, but wanted a German silver faced one, so it's had to be made to order. Which is a nice feeling as well, because I think it's likely less of them are made, but black faced would be too much like my IWC and Sinns and this one is a special occasions kind of piece, so it had to be different, be a proper in house movement and not something I'd likely bump into anyone else wearing, or that the general colleague/friend would know what it was even. Hence several weeks waiting.

I know it'll be worth the wait since I had one on my wrist in February in Vienna, that was black faced, but also tried the silver faced Senator non chrono and since then it's been a case of putting the funds in place and Dominic being his ever hard working self to source one for me . . . . It celebrates getting married, new job and moving to start our new life in Paris for next 3yrs, so it's a proper keeper for life. Which of course makes it all the harder to wait even though I'll own it for many years to come ....

Not much longer to wait though I hope . . . .

I dont usually say nice watch just for the sake of it, its all about personal taste anyway.
But that watch is so damn good looking, I'd marry it and not the GF.

As previously asked, how much is something like that ? Must go look at their website

These things are all relative to the individual and the situation/justification and don't think that I'd pay what their retail list is. This is one of many reasons Mr Hackett has an enduring reputation on the forum and why this will be the 4th watch we'll have bought through him.

Even so it's an expensive purchase, but it is to remember a special set of circumstances.

In the overall scheme of watches, it wouldn't be enough to get a Rolex SDDS, but I just don't think they are anywhere near special or good looking enough for the money they command. It would buy me a new Sub, yet they're relatively common and again not anywhere near special enough. Horses for courses.

Think of it as a 1st step to a Lange & Sohne (if you think this is expensive then make sure you do not shout expletives too loudly when you have a look at their prices)

Whilst not wanting to debate the price of anyones watch mine will be far from the most expensive lurking amongst these pages.

Ultimately it is difficult to justify anything more than £10 for a digital . . . . Which will ultimately be more accurate.

Very nice OP, can't wait to see some pics of that! thumbup

I agree RE pricing, plenty of relative VFM from Glashutte, JLC and a few other of the more 'boutique' manufacturers compared to Rolex et al. If I had a £6k spend limit, I wouldn't even vaguely consider a Rolex.

I think, considering the quality of the in-house movement, the rarity of Glashutte and the sheer beauty of the watch, that it looks like a remarkable amount of watch for the money, and certainly by comparison to the more obvious choices.

Congratulations, and I hope that you enjoy the watch. The waiting will make it all the sweeter.

Johno has asked me to post this shot of his new Glashutte Original Senator XL, a beautiful 'Manufacture' chronograph.

I'm sure he'll be along later, once he's recovered the power of speech! wink

Thank you phantom wallet lightener . . . . wink

It would easily be worth waiting longer. Been a long time since I last had one on my wrist and so glad I did go for the silver dial, it is a stunning piece and the attention to detail even in the deployant clasp is first class.

It is so comfortable to wear, unbelievably so and strangely has a sense of lightness to it that the materials and manufacture contradict. The display back is so cool and it's another watch you have to take off occasionally to have a good look at.

She will be a bit of a watch box queen, brought out for special occasions which is unlike me, but that'll be every month, rather than every day wink

More pics when I get back to Paris.

That's beautiful.

Hard to beat GO for quality at the price point in my view.

Thanks, it is stunning and will be hard not to wear a lot.

Thanks also to Dominic for making the process as enjoyable as ever, it's great to deal with someone who is interested in watches more than just selling them - although he's damn good at that too hehe

May have also just bought a long case 1930's Art Deco German clock (well we paid the money so it's ours). Westminster chimes, art deco case, sliver face, 3 chained weights ..... Stunning.

Just need to work out how we're going to get it back to Paris now confused

I gushed over that watch on another thread and the bigger pic posted here only confirms how right I was to do so. That really is stunning.
