Omega x Swatch Collaboration

You can forgive them 2 years ago for having 20 watches per store, and not expecting the level of hype.
But now we know they are just mugging people off and trying (successfully) to extend the hype.
Hundreds of people queuing overnight for 20 plastic watches 2 years on, is a marketing masterclass. Kudos, but it’s still bonkers

We all know the price, we all know what the watch is, and if you like it, you buy one.

I was in the the Swatch shop on Oxford St on Sunday just gone, they had all the Moonswatch in stock (except the new Snoopy). But now we know they are just mugging people off and trying (successfully) to extend the hype.

It wasn't that busy either, certainly no queues, I walked straight in there. I think the hype is pretty much over now.

Either way, no one is forced at gunpoint to queue up for a Moonswatch. People are free to make their own choices. No one is being ‘mugged’. We are all adults.
I got a ‘really rare’ Blancpain x Swatch ‘Ocean of Storms’ by simply walking into Swatch yesterday and asking for one. I don’t feel like I was mugged in any way.

To have what, less than 1000?, ready for launch - when they could have the factory pumping out the Moonphase exclusively at 100% capacity with a small tweak to the production line, as we know there is enough supply of the OG model now.
I say this as a Mercury owner by the way, I’m not anti-Moonswatch
A relative was keen to show me his speedy swatch last weekend as he knows I like my watches of all types.
I usually wear boringly reliable understated, Citizen Eco divers as my dailies these days - this was the first time I have held/seen one of these Swatch collabs.
Hmm, not sure I am a fan in all honesty, well not at the price they are still retailiing at, feels more like £50 tops, seems daft just for the Omega branding, I don't get it.
It just felt like a cheap child's watch, but each their own of course, its the beauty of watches isn't it, there is so many to pick from and for many to enjoy.

I too saw my first one in the flesh recently- a colleague had got his hands on one of the 'Mission to the Moon' swatches at a boutique in some alpine resort he went skiing in. They really don't seem worth £240 as a 'fun' watch! One of the few watches I'd be happier buying a fake of for £25 as they are exactly the same quality by most accounts.

they are not of the same quality by any means. I know, I have 3 real ones and one fake one. See my lengthy post several pages back about the fake Neptune I bought. IMHO price seems right for what you are getting, but I realize your mileage may vary. The "Moon" is one of my least favourite MoonSwatches btw. It tries to hard to look like the real one. I have one, which I got as a gift. My "Mercury" is much, much nicer, imho.

I think putting an unreasonable limited number in stock and selling first come first served is resulting in these not falling into the hands of end owners but scalpers who’s business it is to restrict supply further and sell on at multiples. I think it’s pretty muggy but it’s a good way to keep that hype.

When these first came out I wanted one. I walked by a couple of Swatch shops and there was always a queue outside. I wasn't interested enough to queue or pay a scalper. Eventually, the demand fell away and I could walk into a shop and see/touch/hold one. I rather thought they would feel like a ceramic watch - cold/hard/robust/heavy. Instead they felt to me to be plasticky/light/cheap. I was not impressed. The metal-cased Swatches are far nicer imho. I didn't buy one.
Only just stumbled upon this thread but I bought a Moonswatch in New York about 18 months ago without realising that there was any hype about them (I saw it in the window of the Swatch store and just thought it looked fun). Mine is a Saturn and whilst it does indeed feel a bit plasticky, I have ended up wearing it everyday and really love it. The screen is getting a bit scratched (I wear it when doing DIY, working on cars, racing etc) but it still looks decent and should the worst happen, I won't lose any sleep over it. I think they're great and would probably buy another if this one broke or got lost

We are in London at the moment and called in to the store at Oxford Street. They had about half of them in stock, I went for Pluto because it looks like a fun design to me and isn’t anything like any of my other watches.
I also liked the look of the moon and mercury ones.
Nice choice, I picked one of these up in Rome airport in the summer. Stuck on a nato (I have a matching red one and a green which I alternate depending how I’m feeling) and been really happy with it. I also liked the look of the moon and mercury ones.
