Best route/time of day - Southampton to Cranfield
Discussion
Hello,
I have to pick something up from near Milton Keynes tomorrow at some point. I'm coming from the New Forest, near Southampton. I don’t really want to be home in the middle of the night but I’d rather not sit in traffic jams all day! When would be the best time to leave? I’ll be doing M27, M3, M25 and M1 (I think). Are there any major roadworks or anything up there I should know about?
Will it be a nightmare if I try it midday? I went to north London via M4 and A406 on Friday and it took 4.5 hours!!! The north circular was a nightmare with roadworks everywhere. It only took 2.15 hours to get back on Sunday night!
Thanks for any advice.

I commuted down there regularly
Always used the A34 route, come up through Buckingham to Milton Keynes
Put it into Tom Tom or google maps and it will make sense
You never know how long you will sit on the M25!
Thanks. Hadn't thought of taking the A34. That would probably be better. Always used the A34 route, come up through Buckingham to Milton Keynes
