I've seen a car I like the look/description of and I've called the dealer and it sounds good. But I'm working overseas and won't be back in the UK until the end of August.

At this stage I just need someone to drive the car and give me a general impression of overall condition. The dealer understands the position so you won't need to pretend any personal interest.

The car is located in Hoddesdon.

Travel expenses will be reimbursed!

I pass by Rush Green every day into work which is about 7 mins from Hoddesdon, so I could do... perhaps...

What's the name of the dealer and what sort of info would you want?

Thanks for your reply Alex.

The car is at Burford Car Sales (www.burford-carsales.co.uk). It's a grey C4S with 36000 miles on the clock and it's up for 21,990.

Before stumping up the cash for a full inspection I just wanted an enthusiast to drive it to check:

- if it performs as it should for a car of this type with relatively low mileage
- general condition - no dents or scratches?
-driving up the dual carriageway at 75mph - car should be stable with no steering vibration or suspension noises (I used to have a car with steering vibration issues - even balancing didn't fix it!).

If you are able to see the car just PM me and I'll let the dealer know you're coming. Don't worry if you can't though!

Morning chaps, I'm down in Ware a fair bit for kids footy coaching, so Hoddesdon easy to get to if you're not already sorted.

I'm familiar with some Porsche 911s on road/track (996/997) - I assume it's a 996 at that price?

Happy to help if I can.

ETA - doh, just noticed you mention it is a 996 in the thread title. I blame my lack of caffeine at such a silly time to be in the office in the morning...

PM sent....

Wish I were getting drunk, when instead I'm just about to go into a board meeting ( argue) in central London.

Basically, I'm happy to help one day next week in the morning if you need it. I admit I don't like Porches, my GF has two of them and I don't drive them unless I have to.

However, I'm happy to give them a looky for you and test drive if you need me to. Just IM me the details and I'll take it from there - assuming had ham and you have not already arranged something. I'm easy either way - I go that way each day so makes no diff to me biggrin

Lovely Sagaris Alex!

Would love to hear what you think about the Evora, it's on the list of possibles to replace one of the cars later this year - love the looks/drive, except the gear box, and every time I've got close to one (albeit last time was a year ago) the kit-car-ish quality has put me off - please tell me it's improved?

Adrian, seems you're covered between us, let us know if you need that test drive?

Thanks for the comments about the Sag! biggrin

I love 'er too!

Evora - I got the IPS version. Like you I tried the supercharged manual one and the gearbox put me off it completely. Complete lot of tross. I hear the later ones were much improved, but I haven't driven one.

The Evora is an excellent handling car and I use it for my daily driver. It has had a few little issues, but nothing serious and all dealt with under warranty without any fuss. It is a great Lotus I think and well worth getting. hehe

Good to hear, I'll have to go look again - may take a look up at Castle in the near future.

Current thinking is Evora, GTR, very late 997 or, from right out of the left field, a nearly new Infiniti FX50!

Glenn McMenamin is the best guy who can test drive the Porsche for you - he is a Porsche driver.

He's based in Milton Keynes.

Good luck.

Can't believe you guys>!

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP - I wish i lived here rather than in Hong Kong (the only place where there is a job for me) or Bournemouth (which is a bit too posh - mostly new money though like Harry Redknapp).

Quick update while I'm drinking some nice Marlborough Chardonnay Oyster Bay NZ - I accept everyone's reluctance to drive a Porsche. Yes, they are dull. But with a bit of tweaking (slightly lower suspension, a Porsche M030 option), a Cargraphic exhaust and an ecu mod to get rid of the dreadful throttle response) - then you've got a good car.

Have given up on the C4S now. I want a 930 3.2 but I'll need to get a modern car as well so that I can brake, turn at junctions and just get from A to B. Was thinking of a V8 Audi S4 for that, if I can deal with the over-servoed brakes....
