Can anyone be as kind as to recommend a tyre fitter around the Wycombe/Marlow/Henley/Maidenhead area who won't charge the absolute earth? I have the tyres so it'd be fitting only.
Also, while I'm at it are there any decent alloy refurb places in the same areas?

Cheers

I have the same requirement from time to time and I use Amalgamated Tyre at Piddington just west of West Wycombe on the A40. One man business and he charges £15 per wheel + VAT. I agree that it's money for old rope but £20 + VAT is pretty common too.

There's several Merityres in Bucks - I've used the one in Hazlemere several times and been happy with the service.
I think he quoted £17 per tyre to fit, in the end Camskill couldn't provide the tyres I wanted so I just ordered tyres fully fitted through Blackcircles.

I've also used Broadway Tyres in Beaconsfield, generally fine, but they seem overly keen to make you also get the wheels aligned at the same time.

For wheel refurbs, look at BJV up in Flaunden. http://www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk/

Broadway Tyres are okay, or at least in my somewhat ancient experience. I lived in Beaconsfield for 35 years and used them for exhausts and tyres from time to time. However I thoroughly endorse Merityre in Hazlemere. They have done the MoTs on all my family's cars from Audi RS4 and Z4M Coupé to and old Fiat 128 and my Westfield. Paul Lucas and his team are firm and fair. Their tyre people across the alleyway are competent and friendly too. The chap I recommended in Piddington happens to be a five minute drive from where I now live and he's the best value I've found in my area.

I went to Merityre to have 4 x tyres fitted to my wife's Mini. It was getting on for £100 (perhaps I exaggerate a little!). However, they have always been good at other times.

Thanks again both. I now need to see if I can get the 4 x 19" tyres in a Monaro (small boot version)!.

I use them for my competition tyres - I have found them to be very careful.

As it happened I loaded the tyres in the car then rang the company in Piddington. Unfortunately he doesn't do tyre fitting on a Friday/Sat. I saw a friend just after who said to pop into Marlow Tyres - so I did on the off chance.
(Funnily enough I told him I'd just rung the place in Piddington and he also said they were excellent)

Ah, the Piddington chap is a one-man band and clearly he makes more profitable use of his busy times selling and fitting tyres rather than fitting customers' tyres. I have to say I was unaware of that quirk.

Glad you got sorted anyway.

Yeah, I spoke to him and he was really helpful - and makes absolute business sense to break his work types down to different days as a one man band. If it wasn't a Friday I'd have been over there in a flash.

Thank you again for all your advice.

Hey fella,

I get mine fitted in Bourne End at Martin Adams, have to sweet talk him a bit and it might be a case of leaving all the stuff there for a day and they'll fit it in when they can but he is super helpful on that front.

If you are looking for wheel refurb, go anywhere but a refurb company in Naphill... PM if you would like more details.

I had a set of wheels refurbished (re-lacquered actually and it turned out to be a bit of a saga) in a place down a lane off Main Road, Walters Ash. That's not the place is it?

Sounds like the very same, they reckoned they could refurbish a set of wheels for my dads car. They put them in the sand blasting cabinet they have an destroyed them. Kept delaying and then admitted what happened, lot of BS about not being able to contact someone who could sort them out etc, in the end my old man went over to collect them and funnily enough the boss wasn't anywhere to be seen, but got the low down from the lads working there that it's not the first time.

Ah! These were a very expensive set of Japanese alloys my son had bought used but in very good order except for some witness marks where labels had been. I asked for them to be re-lacquered to conceal these areas. The tale went on and on and on. The wheels landed in Sydney, where my son now is, yesterday. We'll see what he thinks... Oh yes, the boss is elusive!

Turned out alright but it was close!
