Can anyone recommend a decent (well priced and not staffed by overall-ed chimps) tyre place in the Bedford area?

Have you tried mobile fitters? Often cheaper than garages. I've used etyres and event tyres - recommend both for price and service. E tyres have a base in Luton.

you could always try saxon gate motorists centre, just outside biggleswade. usually cheap, but their stock varies from day to day, and they do like to take their time. sometimes worth the wait for the savings though.

I've recently used Town Tyres in Flitwick for the first time. Their price was right and the receptionist is very easy on the eye!

I've also used Ampthill tyres before. Service was good but they seem to struggle to get the right price for premium makes. They'll probably give you a good price for Uniroyals if that's your thing. They would have been my preference but Uniroyal don't make a tyre in the size I need.

Which side of Bedford are you? Might have another place you could try if you're in the right area.

Live in Ravensden and work at Millbrook so any side is OK.

I'm gonna give Tyre Fit Direct a go. They seem to do a mobile fitting service and the price is good. Coincidentally they're based in Flitwick.

Although I'm now thinking I should have gone for the place with the 'easy on the eye' receptionist!

Huntingdon performance tyres did me a good deal on my F1's, far from the kwik fit type aswell

I used to work at Millbrook myself and still go there several times a week on my mountain bike. Small world...

Anyway for your info I just had a look at Tyre Fit Direct and they were slightly more expensive than I ended up paying at Town Tyres. There's not a lot in it - I paid £205 per tyre fitted which included swapping wheels front to back, tyre fit direct are quoting about £212 for the same tyre. I'll be interested to know how you get on with them though. As far as I know there are only two tyre fitting companies based in Flitwick so it wouldn't surprise me if the fitting was done through one of them. Might be useful info for the future if you don't mind giving us a review!

I've used Just Tyres in Bedford a number of times for my TVRs (opposite the hospital) and had no problems at all.
Alternatively if you fancy a slight trek Hunts performance, as mentioned above, are very good.

Well my tyre fitting was sub contracted to MQ Mobile Tyres.

Turned up on time, did the job quickly and a good price. Would probably have been cheaper if I went direct to them though.
