hamster on a LNG carrier

Te hamsters engineering connections on Iplayer this week was him running round an LNG carrier and it was quite good

Any questions about LNG carriers do pipe up as i used to work on them.

OK, here's one to kick off. Hamster was going on about not having any electrical equipment fwd of the bridge. How true/important is this, given the fact that the ship has it's own equipment there?

Thinking about it, I guess the ship's own equipment & systems are all supressed, bonded, earthed etc...?

About 4% depending on many factors but it isn't lost it's burned in the boilers.

Total rubbish from the hamster.

All non approved electrical equipment is banned.

Approved equipment must either be built to contain any gas explosion inside the casing or be air pressureised to prevent gas entering or be of low energy to prevent sparks.

Hi Guys, long time reader, first time poster etc, etc. I've been on the class of ship Hamster was on and Also the B class Alex was on (My last ship). The echo in the tanks is really that loud.

I caught the bit where he said the tanks were kept at something like -160 degrees........must take a stload of power to keep em like that

The gas comes on about -160 in a liquified state. It's kept that way due to insulated tanks.

The B Class boats were sheds when I was on them 10yrs ago! Still, for 1970s constructed boats its quite surprising they are still going at all!
