I have in my possession my uncles pilot Log Book from WW2.

He flew a variety of aircraft... Hurricane, Magister, Master I II III, Oxford, Tutor, Anson, Spitfire (7882 - Type experience flight), Whitley, Wellington, Bisley, Hotspur, Halifax, Lysander & Lancaster.

Enclosed is a letter to my uncles parents from the soul survivor of the Lancaster landing accident.

Quote:
"The runway that we were using at that time had a row of houses stretched about 50 yards in front of it, and as we were coming into land he found that we were making straight for them, so he pulled the undercarriage up and managed to get over the top of them, but with us only having 3 engines the strain proved to great, and you know the result"

The rest of the letter is very moving & poignant.

The final entry simply states: Crashed killed, 15th February 1943.

The logbook is currently stored in a plastic bag but I really would like to find some sort of presentation box in which to keep it, maybe have name engraved on the front....something like?

Any ideas?

Thanks

sherman

Go see your local joiner/ furniture maker. They will be able to make you a box fairly easily.
