No pictures I'm afraid (I was too busy gawping to remember that the camera was in the car), but I was out in the field near my house when the BBOF Lancaster flew over on Saturday, followed by a Spitfire (much higher). Heard and saw the Spit returning yesterday but unfortunately not the Lanc. As the Spit sounded as though it was nursing its engine, can anyone tell me how many more revs they used to pull in combat mode? I suppose one has to go to Reno to see (and hear) Merlin engined aircraft such as these being wrung out?
Such a beautiful aircraft. I'm currently building a scale model at the mo with super detail.

I've got a feeling it was something like 3.5k flat out, it's not a high figure anyway but then a Merlin is something like 27litres.

I've just googled this & that wasn't too bad a guess - it was 3,000rpm according to the figure just over half way down the wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Royce_Merlin
So what rpm are they using cruising around between shows?For anyone who can't get enough of Spits then this is the airshow for you this weekend.

Should have had the BBMF at Dartmouth Regatta last week - cancelled due to bad weather at base.
Disappointed to say the least particularly because the Red Arrows cancelled as well, understandably, due to their sad loss a couple of days earlier.
One thing did suprise me - on Friday at the Regatta it had been suggested that people wore something red as a mark of respect. Hundreds of people did just that which i thought was fantastic.
There was also a one minute silence in memory of Flt Lt Jon Egging at 6pm on the Friday.
It was obvserved immaculately by the whole town.
Slightly 'off topic' i know however i thought that the above deserved a mention.
