So sadly said:
It might appear this is not the first time, either, after an apparently identical fatal accident in Spain a few years back. It has been suggested that the authorities there were persuaded that it was a 'landing' accident - but aren't they all??
New member - I assume there's more to this than the papers suggest then?I recall going to Grêolieres for a weeks gliding a few years back. The village had elected a woman mayor for the first time in it's history (stick with me here..) and consequently, the whole village, it's band & a few tv crews had turned out for the ceremony.
Unfortunately, There was a shaggy old transit van with Airways written on it parked across the war memorial, where the ceremony was due to take place. Even more unfortunately, we, the only English around at the time, were berated by the incoming mayor, in front of the tv cameras, who had seen us, the van & assumed we were one & the same.
Still even more unfortunately, Chris Dawes, who had the only set of keys, it being his van & nothing to do with us was laid up in hospital with a broken leg, having taken off in a Foehn, after being strongly advised by the locals not to do so.
Flying, so many stories.
