Good footage of the beast but I can't stand the overdramatic commentry.

"If the wing touches the water the plane will cartwheel across the lake and burst into flames..."
"He has to adjust his course to avoid the Helicopter or both aircraft will crash in a huge fireball..."


Reminds me of the spoof "When things fall out of cupboards" comedy sketch.

27 tons of water in a few seconds is pretty impressive, and as stated in previous threads the weight of the craft increases by a third. Must take a bit of skill.

Edit to add "When the aircraft drops the water the pilot must reduce the throttles or the aircraft will rise up and go out of control..." FFS!!!

Oh, it didn't. Phew that was close. And what's wrong with tons? I know how much a ton is, I don't know how much an elephant is.


Such a shame when a perfectly good documentary is wrecked by a stupid sensationalist VO. I suppose we should be grateful it wasn't flown by 'celebs'.

I saw them in Canada when I was about 13.

I love flying boats, and have done as long as I can remember but I wasnt that interested in them. A cougar had been walking around our campervan that night judging by the footprints outside the door which to a 13 year old is pretty cool!

Think there's a Mars featured pretty prominently in the recent A-Team movie, apparently as a scheduled passenger flight! It struck me as a rather unconventional choice and fofr no really apparent reason (other than a rather flat line along the lines of "I ain't gettin' on no plane fool!"

Keep an eye for for him to upload the other 2 parts, he seems to have a load of these and it takes him a while to get them up (he was there in 2016) but he gets the parts up quite quickly when he starts.

Repeatedly, at Oshkosh 2016. Went down to the seaplane park one afternoon hoping to take a look round it, but the Mars team were all looking rather glum and there was a suspicious amount of water being pumped over the side - turns out they'd hit a submerged obstruction and had hull damage. So no tour.

Absolutely epic Oshkosh week though. Nothing like it anywhere else.

Mine was pure chance. I was driving to a marina on Spoat Lake (2015) when a bloody great shadow went over me. I guessed what it was and 5 mins later when at my destination 'Hawaii Mars' did a few passes down the lake. I was more than happy with some flypast shots but then it made a test drop too. There were bad forest fires around and they'd just been called out to help.
