An124 and cargo at LGW

I took these back in 1989 I think, the An124 landed and was parked on the cargo ramp. It then unload it's cargo that were then towed to the Dan Air hangar where they had their rotor blades fitted, they then gave them a quick test and then flew off to that years Redhill Helitech.

The camouflaged beastie is a Mil Mi-28 "Havoc", and the other is a Kamov Ka-27 "Helix" I think, not sure as there are quite a few of that type/silhouette, Kamov helos are absolutely evil looking things.

Helitech still goes on, but at Duxford. I flew into it on September 28th 2011.

Cheers guys, it does seem an awfully long time ago. At that point the Dan Air hangar was brand new and I recall these were one of the first none Dan Air a/c in it. I did get to go onboard the Antonov as the crew were very friendly but didn't [want to] speak a word of English! I'd walked through a C5 Galaxy at a few airshows in the past and this was similar although the flightdeck was huge but had quite an unpleasant smell!! I guess 6 or 7 smelly Ruskies start to pong after a while!!

Where can you check, apart from here, when the An225 will be back in UK? I have never seen it and really would like to. Hopefully East Midlands or Manchester (Unlikely to be Humberside ;-))

Is there any progress or news on completing the other one?

reminds me of when I first saw the AN224, came into LHR to pick up supplies after the Armenian Earthquake. would have been '89 IIRC.

There are no immediate plans for the An225 to visit the U.K, however it is available for charter.

It is unlikely that the second An225 will be recommissioned soon unless sufficient business can be found to justify the cost. The first An225 is not very busy and is very expensive to operate.

Great pics by the way. UR82007 is still in service but has a smarter paintjob now.
