G20 Presidential aircraft pictures at Nice Airport

I get the Nice Airport newsletter and thought these photos were quite good of all the presidentail aircraft that arrived for the G20;

There is just something about Airforce One which dominates, especially as they had to bring along a smaller one as well, but Canada's looks the most executive. I take it DC and the boys jumped on the Eurostar and hired a people carrier at Paris and road tripped to Nice, actually about that time I did see a couple of those graffitied Wicked campers down here which is a rare sight this far, so was it them????

The 747 is clearly the vehicle of choice for those wanting to make a statement then! Would the heads of Canada and Australia really fly in on a small twin engined jet though?

Two different a/c. Canada is A310 widebody, Oz is B737 narrowbody.

Why not.

Both types of aircraft are used as VIP transports. Boeing even build a special biz jet version of the 737, called the Boeing BBJ (BBJ stands for Boeing Business Jet).

Why did the Italians and Germans fly? It's not like it's a million miles away. I can sort of understand the Germans, but an A340 to make a 2 hour flight seems like overkill. Look at what the Brazilians came in.

How can a 737 fly from Aus to France? Surely it would need a fuel stop somewhere?

I didn't realise they were able to cover that kind of distance! As a layman 737 means short haul holiday destination, not cross continent stuff like a 747 or A340

A Boeing 737 with a hundred fat chavs aboard can only get as far as Magaluf.

But the BBJ can, with 8 passengers, go 6,200nm.

Awesome, I think Canada win the colour scheme award. However Japan's aircraft is impressively sinister.

A very interesting collection of executive aircraft all in one place. I'm definitely liking the 747s, it just makes a much bigger statement if you fly in on a 747 instead of an A319... Canada's plane does have a pretty nice paint job though!

I'm sure the Americans must be torn between buying American and buying the biggest when they look at the A380

If I was the Russians I'd turn up in a AN225 and paint it the same scheme as Air Force 1

Here at Farnborough we get a wide variety of executive jets ranging from small Cessna Citations to Airbus A319/320 and Boeing 737 variants - includiog the odd governmental one.

THE UK government/Royalty uses jets operated by 32 Squadron based at Northolt or sometimes BA aircraft - for the longer haul flights.

I know some of those jets are big and official but I have to be honest, if you fly out in or out of Nice over the Monaco GP weekend, the private stands between T1 & T2 are rammed with proper shiny exec jets big and small, forgetting the Kingfisher plane and the other big names it is very impressive.

While I am sure it is safe and well within limits I wouldn't fancy either the arrival or departure at Nice in a 747! Bet they kept boats further away from the runway when Air Force 1 was on finals unlike what it is usually like there...
