I've always wondered why the Russians painted their cockpits blue. It looks very agricultural in there, but that was always the way with Russian technology.

A good place to see these coming and going is Pune International Airport in India. The runway is shared with the Indian Air Force. I was a passenger in a Kingfisher airliner as we made a dusk departure from there. We had to wait at the end of the runway as four Su-27 MK1s took off just to the side of us. Great sound and sight as the afterburners disappeared up into the night.

Anybody know what's been blurred out in the centre of the picture?

Blue is a good neutral colour that offers good contrast and minimises eye fatigue. The Russians prefer adarker colour to the west.

Blurred bit is likely weapon systems controls based on location - pure guess though.
