large bang then odd looking vapour trails?!

im working out on gannet alpha platform in the north sea about 90 miles off aberdeen. this morning i was working outside and heard a pretty loud bang then a short while later vapour trails started appearing on the west side of us. there appeard to be three of them and some others out of shot, have taken photos, if anyone has any insight i would be interested to know! I have some more photos, sorry for the quality but only had a little point and shoot to hand.

for reference the Triton fpso (oil tanker looking thing in the distance) is about 9 miles from us in the picture.

to me it seems that the turn is to tight for a fighter even, and if its wing tip trails they dont run parallel (sp) enough

How do you determine how far away the trails are? That is a problem here, those turns may well be well within capability. That is they are further away from you than you think.

Something on radio 5 about a sonic boom earlier - apparently a big exercise up north in practice for the Olympics and intercepting planes (blokes pissing about with expensive machines).
