I've had a go at this - doesn't seem to be much to it, just flying round Hawaii in a crappy wee plane, have you tried it?

A massive disappointment if you're even a casual fan of Flight Simulator.

I haven't, just thought it might be of interest to peeps on here. Don't think I'll bother though!

I tried it out a couple of weeks back. I haven't bothered playing it more than once. The whole having to buy your credits from the Micorsoft store to download any halfway decent planes, but then you are still stuck with Hawaii only.

Just didn't do it for me at all. I love FS-X and being able to pick any airport in the world and have a go at flying it. (like the 'most dangerous landing' youtube post in here earlier in the week. I've managed to HIT the runway so far but probably wouldn't have walked away!').

FS-X is incredibly realistic to. I realised just how much after watch a friend who is ex-RN landing a Sea-Vixen on the Ark Royal (R09) whilst she was steaming up the channel and then parking the a/c inch perfectly on the deck. For him to be able to do all the the visual cues etc must really be bang on...

I used to use FS9 though haven't had the time or a machine to run it on for the past few years.

I thought MS were describing Flight as being able to please the hardcore sim fans as well as the casual gamer. Has it become too much of a game and less of a sim? The realism is what the geeky part of me enjoyed!

I used to "play" FS9 with the FS-Passengers add on. That was great, as it introduced random failures on the aircraft (if you wanted it to) everything from oil pressure loss down to decompression. The added sound of screaming passengers as you made a dive to a safe altitude was always entertaing. Forgot to add that flying into warzones was also fun, getting shot at made for some interesting approaches.

MS Flight just seems to have lost the whole pick an airport/fly around the world thing. Hawaii would be fun for all of ten minutes, before i wanted to jump in the seat of a commerical airliner and jet off somewhere fun.

It's completely a game and has nothing to please the hardcore sim fans (apparently my collection of joysticks/yokes/other misc paraphernalia makes me one of these paperbaghehe).

I was in the beta which had a ridiculous flight model, unexciting planes, an extremely limited environment, no ATC, no deeply modelled aircraft systems, hell it didn't even have navaids (why would you need any with just Hawaii? banghead) or tunable radios the last time I fired it up.

From what I can gather on various forums, about all that has changed in the full version is you now have nav radios and the odd ILS to shoot.

The whole point of Flight Sim was that you could pick pretty much any location, anywhere in the world, and do whatever you like from a full procedural simulation in a commercial airliner, to buzzing dusty landing strips in a biplane, to hopping between oil rigs in a chopper. They've taken that entire world and reduced it to one island.

MS Flight development has been cancelled staff laid off. Blimey Microsoft has one bad quarter and it starts to implode.

It wasn't really what was expected from a new MS Sim though. Perhaps they will have a rethink later.
