A330 emergency landing.
Discussion
Virgin Atlantic Airbus A330 has made an emergency landing at Gatwick due to a fire onbaord. It was heading for Orlando Florida.
Our friends flew out to there thismorning!
Not sure if they were onboard that one or not.

If this has already been done, my apologies.

Are they new to the virgin fleet, the A330, I didn't know they had any, always 747s or A340s.

It's the laxity of maintenance standards on smaller more obscure airlines which scares me the most. If they'd inflated the tyres the crash wouldn't have happened by my understanding.
Agreed , but the tyres were badly worn and should have been replaced. All it takes is a little shard of metal to cause havoc to the tyres on take off.

It appears from what I remember (and contrary to the official report), the fire started when a passenger lit his own tea making equipment and not in the hold of the aircraft. As mentioned in the Discovery programme, it's not uncommon for such to happen on a Haj flight. By the time the pilot landed and then taxi'd the aircraft on the ground the doors were welded shut and everybody perished. I have also heard (although not confirmed) that the King was at the airport at that exact time and the Tristar had to wait to land until the King was clear - that was just a rumour and maybe complete rubbish.

The thing that scares the living daylights out of me is "turbulence"....
As soon as the plane starts to vibrate or bounce about, I am terrified!
I am hoping that some pilots can reassure me please.
Practically impossible to have a crash because of turbulence unless it's an Air France A330As soon as the plane starts to vibrate or bounce about, I am terrified!
I am hoping that some pilots can reassure me please.
