Hi. We are planning a day sail on the western solent in our Flying Fifteen and was wondering at what state of tide we would be able to launch and recover on the public slipway. Cheers.

Usually once a week or so during the summer. It's a very good slipway, wide and steep. Allows you to keep the trailer hitched to the car without getting the car wet. Easy to drive the boat on and off the trailer and a nice pontoon next to the slip to tie up to once launched to get people and things loaded onboard.

Should be able to launch most boats at about mid tide really. It does flatten out towards the end of the slip so bear that in mind, but there's no real big drop off like you get on some slips until quite a long way out. You'd need to be launching at low tide to get stuck on that.

Just remember to park up in the car park, remove your straps, lighting board, prop bag and get yourself sorted before getting onto the slipway. It's a very busy slip and it's always getting held up by people faffing around in the way!! It does get very busy at weekends in the summer. The little Dinghy sailors are probably the worst culprits for blocking the slip rigging/derigging. I find reversing towards them usually makes them move! wink

Oh and remember the 6 knot speed limit runs all the way out to the starting platform and they're very strict about enforcing it!! Edit: just realised you're a sail boat, no worries about he speed limit then.smile

Have a lovely day. It's a cracking area for a day sail.

If it's a weekend, I might be over at the Grot Haven (next door) tinkering. Or if I eventually get everything fixed, polished and working properly, may even be doing a bit of sailing (God forbid).

So drop me a pm if you fancy a beer or something.
