im aware that civilians arnt allowed to own supersonic craft.. but the harrier isnt supersonic capable is it?

Never been approved for the civilian register. I think only two Harriers have ever appeared with civil registrations in the UK. G-VTOL (the T2 presetrved at Duxford) and another one I can't remember. Both were demonstrtors operated by Hawker Siddeley or British Aerospace and were used as company demonstrators and flown by company test pilots.

The Harrier is an extremely difficult aircraft to fly, especially the first generation macines. Although an upgrade of the FRS1, the F/A2 was still essentially a first generation Harrier with the original smaller wing.

I could never see in a million years the CAA licensing the Harrier for civilian operations in the UK. It's just too dodgy a beast.

From memory the guy that runs "Transair" has a Harrier. Twas he who's brother fell out of the JP

Yes, I heard that as well. I read somewhere he wanted to have the first privately owned and flown harrier.

was this the one outside the shop @ Shoreham Airfield?

I know that there was one there at some point.
Just checked Google maps, and there is a Tornado there now, but I have no idea how old the images are, and I have not been down there for a while.

You could spend a fortune on restoring an aircraft to airworthy condition but it is a total waste of time and money if permission to fly it will never be forthcoming.
