A friend who lives near a certain airbase inhabited by the colonials has noted a rise in activity. Combine that with the holiday weekend perhaps there's dirty work afoot.

Sometimes I think we should just let other countries get on with things. Overturning one ruler after another just because they don't do things the way we like is not sensible. We cannot police the world and there are more important things to worry about on the home front.

kofi annan is in syria for talks, so maybe just diplomatic flights & escorts.

the west doesn't seem to car much about syria, very much doubt they are planning anything involving conflict.

The west cares a hell of a lot about Syria. But the situation is very different to Libya. Russia is a big friend of Syria, supplies (and is supplying) the government with arms and would veto any strong Security Council resolutions against it, with China taking the same line.

Also, Iran's Revolutionary Guard is on the ground in Syria, fighting alongside government forces.

With Libya the government had no friends willing to aid them. With Syria it's very much the opposite, and at the moment, nobody is really that interested in starting a proxy war with Iran and Russia.

I have a friend stationed at Brize, but in MQs on Fairford, they seem to be a bit busy at the moment too.

Most likely to be RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus
