The Longest Day
Discussion
True about the East, but I cannot think of a single event over 24 hours that was so significant.
I think the largest engaagemet of armour occurred in a single day during the battle of Kursk
but the battle was over several months.
Imagine if the bridgeheads on D-Day had not been established how long would that of prolonged the War.
Do you sometimes think we should have a history section on here ?.

in the whole D-Day story, the assault on Pointe du Hoc was fairly important

225 men of the US Rangers assaulted up a sheer 100ft cliff face, destroyed the guns (that had been moved back) which could have decimated the men on the beaches, defended from 5 German counter attacks over 2 days with no resupply and suffered 70% casualties
oh and not forgetting Bill Millin
