This could go here, News or TV..

BBC are going to show re-runs of Tennis matches rather than broadcast the unveiling of the memorial: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/defence/933...

Pretty disrespectful imho.

Hmmm - viewing figures rule.

What is Sky News doing?

What is BBC News doing?

I think its more along the lines of "oh we can't glorify bomber command, they bombed people don't you know..."

Ridiculous moan. They're broadcasting it live. The article is just pandering to people who are happy for anything they can get angry with the BBC about.

Disagree, a re-run of a tennis match is not more important that paying respects to people that helped secure the life you now lead at a national event that has royal attendance.

Its pretty disgusting its taken until now so the poor souls actually have a memorial.

YMMV.

It is interesting to reflect, though, that if it had been a Climate Change Memorial it would be live on several channels, and also headline news.

Right - one person says they are broadacsting it live and another says they aren't. You can't both be right.

It's in the article linked to above. It's broadcast live on BBC News but not on BBC1 or BBC2.

But they're not showing tennis instead of the memorial unveiling, they're showing both.

So, the problem isn't that it wasn't shown live on BBC - the problem is that it was shown live on the WRONG BBC?

So people in Meridian, Tyne Tees and Northern Ireland have a right to be tetchy about this, assuming they don't yet have freeview. I've very much enjoyed watching coverage of the Leveson enquiry these last months, but I think people would have been rightly peeved if it had been wall to wall on daytime BBC1.

Slightly not that annoying when you think about it. If they had delayed the unveiling of the memorial a few months, the whole of the country would have seen it - if they wanted to watch.

Did other channels cover it in any way?

I think people are being a bit hard on the BBC on this one. They deserve a rocket on occasions (the Queen's Jubilee coverage - for example) but maybe not this time.

I agree to all that.

TBH not having the surviving crew from Bomber Command front and centre at the unveiling is much worse.

Don't have Freeview? Seriously, you wrote that down in public?

It appears I did, doesn't it? Do I need to turn myself in at the local police station?

Bargain Hunt and Cash in the Attic are hardly peak time viewing - just the usual morning dross schedule. Most people would be at work so if they hadn't set up a recording they'd catch it on a news bulletin.

I'm no fan of the BBC's political leanings but perhaps this time.....?

Shame the event couldn't have been held on a Saturday or Sunday morning when it might have got better coverage.
