Was wondering whether any of you guys had experience of Chris Craft boats. I'm a complete novice but just moved to a place by the river in Prague and there is a showroom nearby. Got as far as a test ride and now need to explore getting into the boat world via a CC. Any views on CC and suitability for river cruising would be much appreciated.

Thanks, CMD

Thanks for the responses - I have now had the chance to follow this up. I met with the CC dealer and discussed (and had a ride) in the limited edition silver bullet - a fantastic boat. I can get an english speaking instructor locally and obtain a licence etc. Also seems to be some interesting places/large lakes we can use the boat in Czech Republic (not bad for a land locked country). Key decision is whether we go for a purchase this season rather than in the spring when I will have a bit more time. CMD

That's a beautiful looking bit of kit, but I can see a whole world of pain looking after a painted hull.

The Silver Bullet is a very beautiful boat. Make sure the motor is to Euro inland spec, I think Volvo call it 'Boden' spec, as it has to comply within legislation.

A whole new world is opening up to me guys! I will check re the inland spec but would be surprised if this were not the case as we only have inland water in CZ and the CC dealer is long established and seems to know his stuff. R, CMD

Be very careful - dealers sometimes don't actually know their stuff (or couldn't care less) and just want a sale. Check local speed limits, plus any CEVNI and ICC requirements. Also - is it cheaper to buy elsewhere and import? PM me if you want any detailed advice.

Benjamin, thanks for the wise counsel. I'm checking spec at the moment, including freshwater fitting. Prices are quoted in USD and subject to local FX rates (I'm buying in CZK). Thanks for offer, will PM when I have the details. R, CMD

Well, I'm a very happy man! Am now the proud owner of a CC Silver bullet fitted with a 5.0 V8 Mercruiser. The dealer here in Czech has been very helpful, we have a skipper/tutor for 2 months to help us (me & wife) learn the "black art" of boat craft and will apply for ICC and CEVNI in early September. Already experienced a fast run through the middle of Prague (it is unrestricted bizzarely!!) and spent yesterday afternoon on a great stretch of dammed wide river water practicing turns etc.

Any advice on what to read/study/focus on etc. would be welcome. I'll post some pics when I get some time.

Very good choice. A good friend has a CC Launch 25, it's pure class and way better than my Four Winns 24 (although not so family friendly).
