I added the title to the other thread as there's another one gone down, no one hurt. This one in Wales.

It's not actually smashed to pieces is it. It just needs a new set of wings - and a prop - and a new pilot who knows how to fly it.

Daily Mail. At least they got the name right this time.

They do pick some odd aspects:

'1930s design' - but when was it built? Modern replica I suspect but 1930s sounded more dramatic.

'Cream linen suit' - so what?

'Propellor badly broken' - well it was in the middle of the photo so we'll comment on it.

That particular - beautifully maintained - example was built in 1939.

Just realised I know who was flying it frown . Very glad he managed to walk away from that one.

The Mail said:
The man... was later spotted in a local pub.
Which is exactly where any sensible person would be, in those circumstances.

How I hate the Daily Mail...

I reckon I like the bloke, anyone that flys a bi-plane in a cream linen suit, clips a tree, crash lands and buggers off to the pub for stiffner is my kind of bloke.

In Bill Boddy's major work on Brooklands there's a tale of a pilot that crashed into a hanger, he extracted himself from the wreck onto the roof, climbed down, jumped into another plane and flew off....

There was once a student pilot from foreign who was training with the RAF to fly jet fighters. He crashed on takeoff, climbed out, went back to bed and claimed 'it wasn't me'.

True story.

Doesn't really look like an excellent choice of field for a landing? Having done a lot of grass strip trips I'm not sure that's a field I'd choose unless I'd run out of options...
