Lone Red Arrow

Went biking today and as I got to the top of the first climb (10:05am)I heard a jet - unusual for a weekend. Looked around and there was a lone Red Arrow below me flying up the valley over Ladybower. Great to see him!
Strange he was flying towards the dam wall rather than the other way (dambusters style) like most aircraft do. It's a good job nobody was coming the other way!

Last Sunday afternoon a formation of them flew right over our house towards Chesterfield and the Peak, turned south as if coming back, then briefly west before turning east again in a wide curve prior to coming right back over.
We shifted rooms to see them head east, bank and turn north then west approx 3 miles away and then back over again for a 3rd pass, and right over Chesterfield towards the peak again.
All the time alternating between horizontal line formations, line astern (briefly) and then the well known triangle version.
Very spectacular. Made me wonder why they did the repeat and if it was for some show/event in the area?

slightly off topic(!) but just heard a distinctive thrumming sound, got up to look out of the window and there was a (the?) Lancaster flying almost due north, pretty low too, about a mile west of here, somewhere between us and Chesterfield. Not often I've seen it but almost always heard it first and recognised the engine sound.

where he had a Lancaster taxi ride as an 80th birthday present last year and so looked up reasons why it might have been in the area.

which explained, plus showed that there was a Spitfire and Hurricane flypast at Waingroves (for the show of village smaller than some estates!) this afternoon, approx. 20 miles away - should have been over Waingroves for the show at 4.35 and then Alfreton at 4.45. I asked if he wanted an afternoon out and drove to Waingroves, up a narrow v. busy/packed street and past the school with signs for 'Show', tried to find a vantage point up the hill but parked cars, houses, trees obscured it
So I went off to Denby and found a hill overlooking Waingroves and the whole area; should have been ideal. Waited until 5.20 and after several 'shall we give it 5 more minutes?' debates finally gave in.
Three minutes later having just turned onto the main (and busy A610) at Codnor I heard the bloody things seemingly past and to my right but couldn't see anything, then (the first sound must have been leading them and rebounding from my right) they came right over me, left to right, banked as if dogfighting, Hurricane leading, and back over the road right in front. I'd parked up at the side of the road as did lots of others and though my dad couldn't see them to the side (his eyes are terrible) he did see them cross the road in front.
Can't believe that we gave in just 5 bloody minutes before they arrived 50 minutes late! Still, next week...

We were at the portrush air show on Saturday, waited all day for the red arrows. Out of the 7 that were to do the show, as they left aldergrove, one had a systems problem so had to return to base, one had an airstrike on the canopy so had to return to base. The other 5 did a flyover and only 2 did a scaled down display
