Today Network Rail and the train operating companies using London Bridge station announce that a new London Bridge is coming. Theres a model and some leaflets being handed out pointing one in the direction of http://www.thameslinkprogramme.co.uk/ to find out more.
Whilst the model might look nice, and it might be nice to have more through trains in 2018 the reality is that I as a commuter couldn't give a toss about what the station looks like nor how many through trains there will be in 2018.
I care about what is happening about my trains this year and next, after all thats all I can foresee. I might be made redundant by 2018, the office will almost certainly have moved by then changing my travel requirements.
What the site does say is that there will be a significant change to the Southern timetable at London Bridge in December, however theres no details of what those changes will be.
When will rail companies realise that commutes dont care about the station, they arrive on their train and leave it as fast as possible, in the evening they time to arrival according to the departure of their train, they are not planning to hang around and at London Bridge the main users are commuters.
All they want to know is whats happening to their trains and thats the bit the rail companes wont tell them. No longer passengers rant at staff as they are fed up with being treated like mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed on ....

Chris - They (or rather we - I work for NR) DO get it - The problem with London Bridge is that is is at capacity, You'll be pretty familiar with the usual lengthy waits to get into a platform from just aboutr any route, and its getting worse year by year - There are NO easy options to sorting that - I absolutely hear what you say about 'jam tomorrow' but in all honesty this is the situation you arrive at when the powers that be delay grasping the nettle for more than a decade!

They may need to do something, but the marketing of this is stressing the benefits that the most regular users really couldnt care less about. What the regular users are concerned about is what is going to happen to their trains during the works, and the TOCs and Network Rail must have an idea on what is happening to those. So why dont they come out and say what is happening or even likely to happen?What about those who are currently renewing season tickets and then find that in 1 month or 7 months the service they have signed up for, paid for has totally changed?
The secrecy about planned timetable changes just make the passengers even more convinvced that the rail companies are buying their heads in the sand as they know the passengers aren't going to like it.
