Looks like there may be another problem with the A380 engines

Not the RR Trent engine this time though, so no pattern emerging.

Might not even be a direct engine problem. Could have ingested something, many possibilities. At least it doesn't appear to have nearly taken the wing with it this time!

If I remember rightly wasn't the Kegworth crash or Manchester fire caused by an engine malfunction? Hadn't most of the development been simulated
but not really tested properly? Sure it was one of them???

If I remember rightly wasn't the Kegworth crash or Manchester fire caused by an engine malfunction? Hadn't most of the development been simulated
but not really tested properly? Sure it was one of them???
I think from memory the Kegworth threw a fan blade which wrecked an engine. The decision to shut down the good engine and run on the wrecked engine made a failure into a crash. Obviously a lot more discussion re the instruments that were new and digital and harder to read, pilots who were new to the type and had not picked up some of the differences in the moment, and cabin crew who did not mention the flames coming out of the engine that had not been shut down.

"Analysis of the engine from the crash determined that the fan blades (LP Stage 1 compressor) of the uprated CFM56 engine used on the 737-400 were subject to abnormal amounts of vibration when operating at high power settings above 25,000 feet (7,600 m). As it was an upgrade to an existing engine, in-flight testing was not mandatory, and the engine had only been tested in the laboratory. Upon this discovery all 99 Boeing 737-400s (since G-OBME had crashed) were grounded and the engines modified. Following the crash, it is now mandatory to test all newly designed and significantly redesigned turbofan engines under representative flight conditions"

Aviation considers things at a systems level as incidents like this never have a single cause. As noted above this was a combination of an engine failure and flight crew errors. Both were addresed. I personaly dont like long overwater passages on 2 engines. I know its statistically unlikley that you will have second engine failure within the diversion flying time. however if you do you are as they say 100% dead. At least the A380 has 4 of the things.
ps I have however done them so probably I havent drowned alone and 3000 miles from land surrounded in the dark by black hissing 50m high waves. If it does happen you do have a whistle and torch though.
