I worked on this line for First Engineering track renewals, the happiest 18 months of my working life. For each shift the drive to work alone was a joy. Breathtaking views of the Yorkshire dales each shift at work, sunset-sunrise. Fantastic pubs and forgotten villages, only known to bikers. As a plant fitter, I also drove the Gator track vehicle each shift, over all the viaducts and through the tunnels; open air train driving !! Always being hassled to give somebody a go at driving. Always remember 30 burly track workers being rendered to gormless waving children as one of the big handsome steamers went past !
